Clinical Staff Scientist I – Genomics

Eremid® is seeking a motivated candidate to fill a vacancy in its Genomics Laboratory. The successful candidate will perform a variety of clinical and research testing using next generation sequencing (NGS) platforms (Illumina, PacBio) under direction of the Lab Manager. The position requires hands-on experience in molecular biology techniques with a focus on NGS technology. Performs, documents and reports result, assists in instrument maintenance and repair, and monitors various QC/QA processes of the laboratory. The successful applicant will be given onsite training to ensure their success.

Eremid® is a Contract Research Organization (CRO) service provider located at the North Carolina Research Campus, Kannapolis, North Carolina.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Effectively and efficiently performs laboratory testing, including but not limited to RNA and DNA extraction, sample quality assessment, NGS library preparation, and sequencing (Illumina preferred).
  • Accurately and diligently reports and communicates laboratory test results to other staff and leadership.
  • Operates computer hardware and software programs.
  • Adheres to all laboratory quality assurance policies, documenting all quality control activities.
  • Contributes to daily laboratory tasks including management of consumables and equipment maintenance.
  • Assists in writing technical laboratory procedures.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned by management and / or leadership.

Experience, Qualifications/Education:

  • MS or BS in genomics or a related filed with a focus in molecular biology
  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience in Next Generation Sequencing workflow
  • Expertise in RNA and DNA manipulation including extraction, purification, amplification, and sequencing
  • Competence with laboratory instrument operating and management systems
  • Experience in protocol design, implementation, and troubleshooting
  • Understanding of CLIA, CAP, GLP, or other regulated laboratory regulations
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, manage and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Ability to calmly and professionally resolve issues with diplomacy and tact
